Friends of Felines recently had the honor of providing compassionate care for a locally famous rescue cat.
It started when Joe Repasky, general manager of Saffron Supply Co., found an injured cat on his property. He was limping and slow to warm up to people. Over months, the Saffron crew worked to gain his trust.
When they were able to trap him, they found he had an injured leg. Joe wanted to raise money for Jack’s care and to help other kitties in need. He reached out to us, and Friends of Felines offered to take over Jack’s care.
Saffron began a fundraising campaign, donating $50 for each showerhead and faucet they sold. They posted Jack’s story across their social media, and Salem quickly fell in love with the fluffy, blue-eyed boy.
Our veterinary professionals evaluated Jack and determined amputation was the best option. He had a successful surgery on Aug. 17 and spent several days recovering at our hospital before heading home.
Saffron has an ongoing fundraiser to cover the cost of Jack’s care and to support other cats through our Community Medical Fund. They’ve raised $500 to date.
Joe reports Jack is settling in well and has been “cordial” with his tortoiseshell sister.
“He sprints up and down the stairs with ease, likes playing with toy mice, and is VERY attached to us. He can SENSE when we’re going to bed, and runs upstairs to his little cat bed and waits for us to tuck in before jumping up and cuddling under my arm,” Joe wrote.
“Overall, he’s one of the happiest cats I’ve ever seen. He also seems to look out the window with ZERO interest of ever going out into the wild again. I think he’s happy to be a protected, fed, warm, cozy indoor cat.”
