Exam

Our Spay & Neuter Clinic surgeon will perform a physical exam on the morning of your pet's surgery to make sure your pet is safe for the procedure. If your cat is sick or has been sick, the surgeon may decide that it is not safe to do surgery that day. If that happens, we will ask you to visit a full-service veterinary hospital for care before your cat can be spayed or neutered with us. We reserve the right to refuse service to any client, for any reason.

Requirements for Surgery

  • Gender: If unsure, schedule as female.
  • Age and Weight: Cats must weigh at least 2.5 lbs. and be at least 2 months old.
  • Carriers & Transport: ALL cats must arrive in their own secure cat carrier. We will not accept loose cats for surgery. No cardboard carriers are allowed.
  • Health Status: We can’t operate on cats that are sick with things like a cold or ringworm. Tell us if your cat has any health issues.
  • Pregnancy, heat and nursing cats: our surgeon is comfortable with spaying cats that are in heat or pregnant. Nursing cats should be spayed once the kittens are weaned (6-8 weeks old). 

Financial Assistance Programs

Financial assistance may be available for qualifying clients.

Requests must be submitted by email to surgery@sfof.org and are reviewed on a case-by-case basis. Income restrictions apply, and applicants must provide proof of enrollment in a government assistance program. Financial assistance is subject to the availability of grant funding and cannot be guaranteed.

Please DO NOT use the online scheduling system to book surgery if you are requesting financial assistance.

Surgery Fees

The surgery fee includes a preoperative exam with the surgeon, anesthesia and patient monitoring. The $99.00 surgery fee is collected as a NON-REFUNDABLE deposit when you schedule the appointment.

  • Spay (female cat): $99.00
  • Neuter (male cat): $99.00
  • Cryptorchid neuter (undescended testes): $99.00
  • A $20.00 fee will be charged for additional pain meds if the surgeon prescribes them to go home.
  • Protective E-Collar: $5.00

Please note: Any antibiotics or other medications recommended by the DVM, will have an additional cost to the client, ranging from $10-$40 per medication. There is a $5.00 prescription filling fee applied to each medication sent home.

*These vaccines will require a booster vaccine given in 3-4 weeks. Kittens need vaccine boosters through 16 wks old.

Due to high demand, appointments often book several weeks in advance. If none are available online, we are fully booked. New surgery appointments open Tuesday–Friday at 9:00 AM—please check the website regularly. Like many clinics, we are very busy but remain committed to accessible, affordable care. Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR) Resources

TNR appointments can be scheduled online.

We help manage the feral cat population through TNR.

A feral cat is defined as being wild, unsocialized to humans, and not handleable. The Feral Cat Package costs $99.00 and includes:

  • Sedated physical exam
  • Spay or neuter surgery
  • Rabies and FVRCP vaccine
  • Dewormer and flea treatment
  • Ear tip (the very end of the left ear is clipped to show the cat has been fixed)
This package is for feral cats, who might not see a vet again. The surgeon will examine each cat on the morning of surgery. All TNR cats should be scheduled as a female, so that we set aside the necessary surgery time and supplies in case a male is actually a female.
Please note that our financial aid currently does NOT cover the TNR package and that we do not have a grant to make TNR free or reduced cost at this time. We refer large cat colony caretakers to Feral Cat Coalition of Oregon in Portland to use their reduced fee clinic when performing large scale TNR.

The Feline Wellness Clinic

provides affordable preventive care for your healthy cat. We will not examine or treat sick or injured cats in the Wellness Clinic.

We offer the following Wellness Services for healthy cats and kittens:

Feline dental care

Dental exam, full mouth dental x-rays, cleaning and polishing (includes general anesthesia): Starting at $475 (CareCredit financing available for those who qualify). See below for more information.

We’re pleased to offer dental cleanings and extractions for healthy cats under 7 years old. Senior cats (age 8+) are welcome, however full lab work is required to have been done within the last 3 months.
Our dental package price is $475 (discounted to $450 if paying with cash or check). The following services are included:
  • A pre-anesthetic exam including full oral health exam by the veterinarian
  • Balanced anesthesia tailored specifically to your cat’s needs and directly monitored by a licensed veterinary technician
  • IV catheter and IV fluid support during the procedure
  • Dental x-rays
  • Dental cleaning and polishing performed by a licensed veterinary technician or experienced veterinary assistant

For senior cats needing lab work performed, we offer that service for just $140.

The doctor will evaluate the x-rays and perform the visual exam of your cat’s teeth. This will determine whether there are any loose or fractured teeth, or teeth that have dental disease and should be removed. Tooth extractions are not included in the package price, and fees range from $10-$50 each. Our clinic has chosen not to perform full-mouth extractions for cats with stomatitis and will refer those cats to a full-service clinic.

What to know about our dental services:
  • Our clinic accepts cat patients only; we do not see any dogs.
  • Cats must have had an exam in our wellness clinic in the past 3 months to schedule a dental cleaning.
  • Dental cleanings are only offered on Mondays. Availability is limited and by appointment only.
